Not alone . . .

Haida is a critically endangered language.  According to the First People’s Culture Council, there are only 20 remaining fluent speakers of it.  Spoken on the islands of Haida Gwaii in British Columbia, it dates back 11,000 years to when people first settled there after the last Ice Age. 

I learned that there is a well-known Haida saying:

Gina waa dluxan gud ad kwaagid” (everything depends on everything else).

Maybe the few Haida speakers left are not as alone as they think they are.  It would be nice to think so.
