Wardrobe No. 2 . . .

A family member tells us the lengthiest of stories.

Their best involved a vivid description of the furniture in their bedroom, to explain where they kept their Will.

We learnt the colour of the carpet, the age of the bed (why?), the difference between the wardrobes in their room – subsequently identified as Wardrobe No. 1 and Wardrobe No. 2 (most helpful) – and the code to the security box that contained the Will (OK, that was helpful).

But their story took 25 minutes.

Me? I’d have said,

“My Will’s in the wardrobe near the window, and here’s the code you’ll need when the time comes.”

From 25 minutes to 25 seconds, job done.

But that’s because I’m a big picture person and I don’t do fine detail well. Or should I say, I can do it really well, when I absolutely need to . . . but it’s not my preference, my default position, my go-to style.

What’s the difference between big picture and fine detail? Simply put, this is how I’d define it:

Big picture, fine detail

So, big picture, or fine detail? Neither is right or wrong, they’re just you.

Though I might suggest that occasionally you can do yourselves a favour by being aware of your preference and adapting your style to the person in front of you.
