Working with a group of first line managers last week reminded me that good leadership development is as much about learning something new as it is about reaffirming that what you’re already doing is fine.
This is especially true of many people I work with who are all so genuinely modest that they sometimes forget to acknowledge what they’re good at – their talents, skills, and reasons why people want to work for and follow them.
Yet allowing yourself, giving yourself permission for, some quality time to reflect on your performance, on your attitudes and your behaviour, can be revelatory and reassuring. It can provide a much-needed boost, remind you why you wanted to manage people, and send you back to the workplace reinvigorated and with a new enthusiasm.
All really important in the times and situations we’re working in. Working life is tough at the moment.
Could you find 10 minutes soon to give yourself some much-needed, and oh so worthwhile, me time?
