I went to collect a parcel at my local delivery office.
A fairly cheery, polite postal man was dishing out parcels after checking each customer’s ID – a necessity I fully understood.
While waiting in the queue – and it was a long one – I spotted this handwritten sign taped on the service counter sliding window:
It seemed such a shame that the scribbled note was incongruent with the very civil, efficient service delivered by the man behind the counter.
As someone not unfamiliar to the pressures caused by working in a service environment, the demands placed by unreasonable customers, or the need to keep smiling outwardly when inside you want to scream, I well understood that the note had probably been placed by a very frustrated employee having to deal with repeat excuses of sorry, I haven’t brought my ID.
But on the opposite wall, on an official noticeboard, was a corporate logo branded, very carefully worded sign, that said:
Good communication is everything, isn’t it?
