A friend once shared with me something their Dad did when in a sticky social situation.
Cornered by the party bore who thought their life was simply so fascinating they had to tell him about every last detail of it, without pausing for breath, and without any indication that they might ask him about his own life (you know, just for interest), his Dad would get to a point in the monologue when he could take no more.
And it was at this point that he delivered ….
“Really? [significant pause] How interesting!”
With great inflection on all 3 words, just for emphasis, just in case they missed the hint of sarcasm that was intended.
Now someone said that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit … but do you know, I’d love to try this!
Have you been to the same party?
