Pleasure and pain . . .

Scientifically, there is a reason why scratching an itch feels so good.  Doing so releases serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that plays a part in boosting your mood.

Now take that idea one step forward.

If, metaphorically, your itch was a very real problem that you were trying to solve, and you could scratch away at it to solve it, wouldn’t that make you feel good, even better?
