Being present . . .

Cosiness, charm, happiness, contentedness, security, familiarity, comfort, reassurance, kinship, or simpleness? The Danes have a word for it: hygge (pronounced hue-guh).                   There’s a lovely, slightly more detailed, explanation of it here.  I’m already smitten. Making meaning . . .

Just in case you were wondering whether coaching is for you … this might help:

Try to see it my way . . .

I came across this wonderful video – It’s Not About The Nail. At under 2 minutes long, it’s definitely worth a watch.  A simple demonstration of how the strong urge to rescue rather than empathise can lead to miscommunication. If any of this is true (and in a post-truth era, surely we must consider doubting at least some of it?), it makes for some pretty thought-provoking debate.  My favourite?  The number of searches before and after Google.  I seem to remember we had books and libraries way… Read More BG . . .

The gold standard . . .

“Countless books and advisers tell you to start your leadership journey with a clear sense of who you are. But that can be a recipe for staying stuck in the past. Your leadership identity can and should change each time you move on to bigger and better things.  The only way we grow as leaders… Read More The gold standard . . .

What are your Big 5?

Eleanor Ross writes for Virgin about How leadership has changed because of technology.  She suggests that “Thanks to technology, leadership is possible without making a sound. It’s just happening online.” And if technology enables leaders to manage remotely more effectively, to plan, to communicate, to work in different places in different ways, it has my… Read More What are your Big 5?

Would you disagree?

I rather like Robin Sharma’s classic, Leadership Lessons from the Monk who sold his Ferrari, and especially this definition of leadership which comes close to something I’m comfortable with when trying to understand exactly what leadership is.  See what you think.
