I love books.
And I have a beautiful one bought for me by my husband when I moved into a new job. John Adair’s Lexicon of Leadership, The definitive guide to leadership skills and knowledge is an appropriately weighty tome, nearly 500 pages worth of great words about leadership, and leaders, and the people they lead.
I’m not one for over-egging leadership models and theories; experiential learning, context and currency has always been important for me. However, I entirely understand the appropriate use of good learning and knowledge about leadership to help someone perhaps consider their own behaviour or performance, or to enhance self-awareness of their role. And Mr Adair’s book is action-packed with excellent thinking on leadership that could prompt many a debate.
So, how to sum up 500 pages (not that I recommend it – it’s an excellent read which deserves whole attention from cover to cover)?
“Leadership is, after all, largely an issue of people and their ability to communicate effectively with one another.”
Thank you Mr Adair. Perfect.
