In 1987, Sue Lawley chose an ironing board as her luxury item on Desert Island Discs.
Let me be clear. I like Sue Lawley’s work. But, I’ve never understood her choice here. The thought of ironing, even on an idyllic island, fills me with dread. I can always find much better ways to spend my days (desert island or not).
But who am I to judge? My own luxury item would have to be a choice between a dishwasher (I know, I know) or Radio 4 – I think R4 would probably win.
Oh well . . . it just goes to show . . .
