In my office at work we have an instruction for our water boiler, reminding users to turn the dial anti-clockwise to release the boiling water. The note isn’t printed, or lengthy, or at all ambiguous. It’s handwritten on a sticky yellow note that might not last too much longer stuck to the front of the boiler casing. But it’s clear, to the point, and helpful. Looking at it today, I was just reminded how sometimes we can over-complicate information by saying too much. Our beloved water boiler note is definitely a case of less is more.
