Time for tea?

“Life’s not fair, is it? Some of us drink champagne in the fast lane, and some of us eat our sandwiches by the loose chippings on the A597 (Victoria Wood).”

I loved Victoria Wood. I saw her on stage in the ’90s – an evening out to remember with my wonderful mum-in-law, where we laughed so much we ached. And Dinner Ladies, and The Ballad of Barry and Freda – just genius. Regular items on family TV and music playlists.

And Ms Wood was right. Life isn’t fair. But might I be bold enough to go further?

So what if we are eating sandwiches by the loose chippings on the A597? Isn’t it who you’re with, not just where you are, that counts most? Some of my best sandwich-eating moments have been in unexpected places, but always with good friends and laughter and kindness.
