We’re meant to be together . . .

“When we seek for connection, we restore the world to wholeness. Our seemingly separate lives become meaningful as we discover how truly necessary we are to each other.” Margaret Wheatley

Custom made . . .

Fika is Swedish for coffee break.  Or at least I have to take it on good authority that it is.  My Swedish is not good. But attributing the term coffee break to the word fika seems to do little justice to what it really tries to convey, what it really is. I guess that the… Read More Custom made . . .

Understanding . . .

“You know what a learning experience is?  A learning experience is one of those things that says, ‘You know that thing you just did? Don’t do that’.” Douglas Adams (The Salmon of Doubt)

Ooh, tricky . . .

Alison Green’s book, “Ask a manager” stemmed out of an advice column/blog she set up to enable people to get fresh perspectives on the things that were troubling them.  She admits to being not a perfect manager or colleague, and isn’t to be seen as someone who has all the answers.  But what she does… Read More Ooh, tricky . . .

Celebrate good times . . .

The German word feierabend originates from the 16th century.  Then, it meant celebration evening and was used to describe the night before a public holiday. Today, in Germany, it’s come to mean the free time between leaving the office and bedtime on any working day.  A time for doing nothing … not even  time for exercising… Read More Celebrate good times . . .

The message is clear . . .

Staff at Kellogg’s UK office are enjoying their 15th year of the Kellogg’s Summer Hours scheme.  Running from May to September, it enables office-based workers to finish work any time from 12pm on a Friday as long as they’ve completed a full week’s hours. The rationale? Kellogg’s says that “more time away from desks as the… Read More The message is clear . . .

Being optimistic . . .

Psychologist Richard Wiseman suggests that if you believe you’re lucky, you’ll tend to attract more good fortune. Why? Because you create and notice opportunities more.  You’ll also be more prone to resilience. It feels like a glass-half-full-rose-tinted-spectacle kind of day.
