A question . . .

Someone reminded me the other day about the name of the discipline I work in … Human Resources.

Human, I like.

But Resources?  What an awful term.  As a very person-centered developer of people, the notion that I could ever so clinically consider the wonderful people I work with as a resource stopped me dead in my tracks, left me cold, upset me.

Who are the people I work with?  Are they a number, a target, a statistic, a unit, an asset, stock or a thing?

Or are they people, humans, individuals?

I hope that all HR professionals the world over know the answer.
